"Death Yell"

DEATH YELL was formed in Santiago, Chile, in 1987 by Pollo, Pulga, and Pato Bala, initially under the name PESTILENCE. Shortly after, Watiu and Galleta joined, completing the classic lineup that would shape the band’s legacy.

Within just a couple of intense years, DEATH YELL had forged a distinctive style that quickly became part of Chile’s mythical underground scene. Their demo Vengeance from Darkness captured the band exactly as it was: raw, chaotic, and brutal. With DEATH YELL there was no middle ground—you either loved them or hated them.

In 1991, after a turbulent journey filled with both highs and lows, the band abruptly split up. Only years later did it become clear how influential their demo had been, inspiring countless death and black metal bands and fans worldwide. The recordings would eventually be remastered and reissued, keeping the band’s early spirit alive and fueling the decision to reunite two decades after their breakup.

Four of the original members—Pollo, Galleta, Pulga, and Watiu—were joined by Jano on drums to return in 2013 with Back from the Depths, released as a 7” split, proving they had lost none of their eerie, occult style. From then on, they focused on reclaiming their place in the extreme metal scene, culminating in 2017 with the release of Descent into Hell, their long-awaited first full-length album after 30 years.

Now, after years of silence and rebirth, DEATH YELL stands stronger than ever. Their newest album, Demons of Lust, marks the beginning of a new chapter: darker, more intense, and more uncompromising than anything they have done before.

With their current lineup—Pollo, Watiu, Chato, Lúcuma and Lury—the band reaffirms their legacy as one of South America’s most iconic and notorious names in death/black metal, ready once again to summon chaos and ignite the underground.
